NS: What are you working on lately?

RD: I try to keep myself productive and end up drawing random stuff for myself. As long as I am still drawing, I’m pretty content.

NS: What else are you up to?

RD: For over a year I’ve been compiling memories and stories that I can visualize as comics. I find the sooner I make notes of these stories, the better memory I have of it when I go to draw it out. One of these days I’ll have to take the next step and actually illustrate them…

NS: Are you reading anything?

RD: I’m currently reading My Stroke of Insight by Jill Bolte Taylor and The Memory of Running by Ron McLarty. I have no reason for reading them both at the same time other than I like to read one while I commute and the other at night. So far so good on both.

NS: Can you suggest something to read?

RD: As a very visual person, it took me a long time to appreciate reading. Now, I love it and completely value how much it has helped me evolve as an illustrator. If I were to suggest one book to read, it would have to be Chris Ware’s Jimmy Corrigan, The Smartest Kid on Earth. It’s the longest, most painfully emotional and beautifully drawn book I’ve ever read.
